Catedrático. Facultad de Comunicación. Universidad de Navarra. 

Autor de las monografías Filming History from Below: Microhistorical Documentaries (2022) y Elia Kazan (Cátedra, 2000), co-editor de los libros El hombre sin la cámara: El cine de Alan Berliner (2002) y Paisajes del yo: El cine de Ross McElwee (2008) y editor del libro La casa abierta. El cine doméstico y sus reciclajes contemporáneos (2010). 

He impartido seminarios y sesiones docentes en universidades de EEUU, Canadá, México o Italia; y mis publicaciones han sido traducidas al chino, al húngaro y al turco.
 

Mi investigación se ha centrado en las siguientes áreas: cine  documental,  autobiografía fílmica, narratología fílmica, realismo y  representación en cine y televisión, y cine doméstico.  En este último ámbito, he dirigido recientemente un proyecto de investigación centrado en España, he sido co-comisario de una exposición para los centros Caixaforum y he coeditado el libro El cine doméstico: Definición, preservación y apropiación (que se publicará en octubre de 2026).

El cine doméstico y sus reciclajes contemporáneos ([The Open House: Home Movies and Their Contemporary Recycling], 2010).  

I has given seminars and  lectures at universities in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Italy, and my publications have been translated into Chinese, Hungarian and Turkish. 

My main areas of research are documentary cinema,  filmic autobiography, film  narratology, realism and representation in film and television, and home movies. In this last field, I recently lead a research project focused in Spain, co-curated an exhibition for Caixaforum centers and coedited the book El cine doméstico: Definición, preservación y apropiación (coming out in October 2026).
